Build a Better Burb

Rencetly, two CCNY landscape students, Alexa Helsell and Bronwyn Gropp, entered a project in the Build A Better Burb competition.  The entry, Building C-Burbia, has been selected as a finalist and it can be seen on the website linked below.  For those of you familiar with the City Sink research, the project expands the proposal for systemic carbon storage landscapes into the suburbs.  There is a public ‘popularity contest' and this is shamelessly intended to make it easy for you to vote for Building C-Burbia (at the end of the gallery).

URBAN GREEN COUNCIL IS NOW ACCEPTING SPEAKER APPLICATIONS

URBAN GREEN COUNCIL IS NOW ACCEPTING SPEAKER APPLICATIONS FOR URBAN GREEN EXPO 2010

Call for Proposals for Urban Green Expo 2010 Educational Sessions is now open until June 15th

Urban Green Expo 2010 will bring together building professionals on September 29th & 30th for top-level educational sessions and acclaimed speakers including Opening Keynote Speaker William McDonough, internationally renowned architect, designer, and author.  The conference is the premier green building event in the northeast and is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals and organizations to present their work to a broad spectrum of the green building community.

URBAN GREEN EXPO 2010 CONFERENCE THEME: PUSHING THE ENVELOPE

Green buildings transform our communities by expanding and redefining what is possible in the places we live and work and play.  How we construct, and reconstruct, our physical world has a major impact on the resources we consume and is among the most significant legacies we leave to future generations.  At Urban Green Expo 2010 we will explore how green buildings can "push the envelope" both literally, by focusing on the importance of high performance building enclosures, and metaphorically, by addressing topical subjects like verifying building performance and by highlighting innovative buildings, processes and systems.

Help New York "push the envelope" at Urban Green Expo 2010.

We hope to see you on September 29th - 30th in New York City, as a speaker, audience member, or exhibitor (click here to learn more about exhibiting -- including early bird incentives available until June 15th).   Please don't hesitate to contact uswith any questions.

The Uncommon Gardner will offer first hand advice for the gardening and non-gardening public. It is mostly meant to be educational and informative, illustrating how to plant on your balcony or in your yard. But there will be posts, when it's just a report on a field trip to the local Botanic garden to see the cherry trees in bloom or photos of the Highline Park or a staute in a park or the composting vendor at the farmer's market. There will be posts about the benefits of compost o  your garden beds, teh use of fertilizer, the best place to buy planter boxes in NYC (it's not Home Depot)
