Based on a Master Plan completed in 1997 that was prepared by Mathews Nielsen, Hudson River Park is now nearing completion; it transforms five miles of waterfront on New York's west side into a magnificent park. Segment 3, adjacent to Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood, is one of five design and construction segments of the entire park. This 1.25 mile-linear open space also comprises two public access piers, 900 and 700 feet long, as well as a third existing access pier to a tunnel vent, and several pile fields from collapsed marine structures. Many of the program components were identified during the master plan phase but were refined during this project as a result of a decade of changes in the neighborhood's character.
