The Octagon represents the transformation of a historic hospital complex on Roosevelt Island from abandoned ruin to a bustling residential neighborhood.  The site has a below-grade parking structure that supports a one-acre rooftop garden with native plantings, walks and seating areas affording residents with fantastic views of the United Nations campus and the Manhattan skyline. Elements on the site represent a fusion of ‘old and new’ New York with details ranging from World’s Fair benches and native trees to a dramatic lawn panel on the rooftop and state-of-the-art play equipment. The Octagon has earned a LEED Silver certification and includes a number of sustainable design features including the largest solar array in Manhattan which generates 50kw of electricity and a one-acre Ecological Park.
