Haven Meadows involved a long-term master plan and implementation for a 40-acre site with historic buildings and degraded landscape. Based on extensive research of the architectural significance of the buildings, it was determined that they would be preserved and relocated. All trees, woodland areas and meadows were analyzed and inventoried. A five-year plan to restore the wooded areas was implemented, removing invasive species and replacing these with a multi-layered planting of native trees, shrubs and ferns. Meadows were protected during construction and further enhanced with native grasses and flowers. Major design components included the installation of drives servicing the buildings, a swimming pool and a tennis court, all sited in previously disturbed areas to minimize impact on existing native landscapes. A 450' long ha-ha wall prevents deer from entering the main house and pool area, while preserving views of the bay. Gardens-including a shade garden, an orchard and a lavender panel-function as outdoor rooms with varying seasonal interest and enjoyment.
