The Sixth of October Development and Investment Company enlisted EDAW to prepare a master plan and landscape design for the 331 hectare mixed use community Allegria, located on the western side of Cairo, Egypt.  EDAW, together with Michael Graves Architects, Arquitectonica and Greg Norman Golf Course design worked to minimize the impact of development and capitalize on the site's natural beauty. To achieve these goals, the project team located schools, shops and other amenities within easy walking distance, integrated the 18 hole golf course with parks and trails to create a continuous open space corridor and relied on xerophitic plantings to reduce water usage. EDAW enhanced the existing topography of the site to preserve dramatic views across the desert towards Cairo and the Great Pyramids at Giza.
